The Warman family came from far and wide to join in the fun, to honor Ron and to support Pathway To Hope, an organization they feel has been very important in their lives. |
“After some last minute juggling, the 1st Annual Ron Warman, Jr. Memorial Walk to support Pathway To Hope was a wonderful success,” said Sharon Lawrenz, Executive Director. “It’s all my fault that our park reservation was crossed up” she said. “The location had to be changed at the last minute to Millcreek Streamway Park in Shawnee, but things worked out beautifully. God provides.”
Nearly fifty walkers of all shapes, sizes and ages gathered at the park shelter to begin the 3-mile walk on a very nice September 17th afternoon. Mixing great conversation, playground fun, picture-taking and a very stylish commemorative tee-shirt, the walkers moved out in bunches leaving their pledge sheets and cash behind. When all the pledges and cash was tallied, the walk will end up generating over $1,400 to honor Ron’s memory and help support the work of Pathway To Hope. “It’s a fitting tribute to a great guy,” Sharon said.
After the walk was completed and the participants gathered back at the shelter, the Warman family shared some of their memories of Ron and helped to illustrate with their stories why the event was named for him. “It was a great honor to have that many family members join us for the walk,” said Ron Shrum, Board Chairman.
Sandwiches, chips, desserts and drinks rounded out the afternoon of fellowship.
“I really appreciate the work that the Survivors and volunteers did to pull this event together. It gets bigger and better every year. It was first class,” said Lawrenz. “I’m already looking forward to next year.”
